This was the view from the front entry of a home we recently staged. A potential buyer’s impression is formed in the first few minutes of entering a home. With this in mind the living room needs to be welcoming and cohesive, drawing that buyer in. We love the hand-scraped hardwood floors but suggested a few changes to maximize the appeal of the room.
The first change is paint color — from red on the accent wall to a more neutral, and less light-absorbing, tan. Next came furniture arrangement. We relocated the piano and book shelf to the opposite side of the living room. Now the upholstered furniture is rearranged into a conversational “L”. We suggested adding a large area rug. The homeowners purchased one they love and will use in their new home. Tables and accessories were repurposed and added. A simple mirror was hung behind the sofa. Now the view from the front door is clean, inviting and intentional.
How do potential buyers like it? We’re happy to report that an offer was accepted just a few days after listing the home!
