Staging a Formal Living Room

 

A formal living room’s decor usually focuses on design rather than function. The formal living room is located in the front of house and is used to receive and entertain guests.  The walls and horizontal surfaces are often decorated with art and artifacts rather than personal photographs.

This room fits the homeowner’s personality. She loves to entertain and tell stories about each item.

So what makes a room formal-looking?

A formal living room would house your best furniture and accessories and be arranged in a conversational grouping. A neutral palette is the norm with a few splashes of color.  You would bring out the tea and cookies, but not a full meal.
