When these new homeowners moved in, they painted one wall of the master bedroom and bought some coordinating accent pillows for the bed.  A mismatched slipper chair was covered with a throw.  Then they moved on to other, more pressing projects in their home.

Six months later the room still felt unfinished.  They came back to the master bedroom with fresh eyes and a desire to complete the decorating.

The accent pillows were the starting point for incorporating more color into the room.  Since the focal wall was already painted teal, more of the mustard yellow seemed the right complement.

The adjacent walls were painted a light gray to harmonize with the comforter and pillows.

Window valances, an accent pillow and a throw pulled the mustard yellow color around the room.  Lampshades in the same pattern as the original pillows provided some more interest.  The wall graphic brings additional pattern to the space.

Notice the subtle tweak to the original furniture arrangement.  The slipper chair has been replaced by one with a sleek gray and white chevron fabric.  It has also been relocated to the opposite side of the bed, where it captures the view outside.

With a few finishing touches, the master bedroom that felt “almost there” from a decorating standpoint, now looks finished.  The result is a relaxing retreat at the end of the day.
