Premiere Home Stagers recently staged this vacant house. Where to position the furniture is challenging in a long room.
I positioned the main furniture pieces in front of the fireplace, which is the focal point. Every room should have a focal point and a purpose. Notice how this room doesn’t evoke any emotional connections?
It’s not until the accessories are added to soften the hard surfaces, that an emotional connection is made. You can picture yourself sitting down with a cup of coffee and reading the book that’s on the end table.
The aqua sofa table ties in with the same color scheme at the other end of the room (see photo below). The sailboat sitting on top of a book about sailing makes another emotional connection.
The secondary focal point is the large window that overlooks the private landscaped backyard. This spot is perfect to view the birds or have a “tete-a-tete” (literally “head to head”) with a cherished friend.
The room now feels cozy and most likely will make an emotional connection to any prospective buyer.
