Patio

Patio

The patio on the side of this house had a nice view of the lake. However, once night-time arrived, so did the mosquitoes.  That meant summer-time guests had to retreat into the house and lose the view and the ambience of outside drinks and dining.

So later last summer, a screen porch was built on top of the patio using all “no-maintenance” items.  The flooring resembles wood, but is a product called “Aeritis.” It is fastened underneath and never warps or needs refinishing.

The cedar ceiling could be refinished, if desired, but the homeowners like the natural look.  The fixed skylights let in natural light. The indoor-outdoor ceiling fan can be remotely turned on to deliver a slight or hardier breeze for those hot, muggy summer nights.

Hosting a dinner party is even more relaxing when you don’t have to chase away those small black bugs from your meal. The lighted tree gives the corner some softness.

The white trim and moulding is Azek–a material that never needs painting.  The only maintenance needed each year would be to clean the skylights and repair any screen tears.

Because this side of the house is up higher, it feels like being in a tree house. Trees were trimmed to get a better view of the lake.  The remaining trees house lots of birds and squirrels, all at eye level.

The porch was completed in October, just as the weather turned cool.  So this year, the homeowners get to spend the whole summer out here.  Thanks to Premiere Home Stagers (608-345-9396) for the design and Haver Design and Construction (608-241-4297) for the beautiful workmanship.
