This project started in October and was closed in before the snow and cold arrived. It is difficult to be uprooted any time of the year, but especially so during the holidays.
New side entry
The new side entry is more convenient than the former rear entry because it is closer to the garage. The temporary door will be replaced with a different door that lets in light.
Original Rear of House
The new brick matches the old brick exactly. A sign of a good addition is not recognizing where the old meets the new.
The lower addition consists of a mudroom, closet, powder room, and family room. Where there was only one upstairs bathroom, there will soon be one remodeled full bath, one new 3/4 bath, and one new powder room.

The upper addition consists of a master bedroom, master bathroom, and large closet. You can see the old roof in the photo and how the new portion ties into the old roof-line.

Because of the brick exterior, the ductwork had to be exposed in the basement, rather than boxed behind drywall.

A new two-car garage is a welcome change from the previous one-car garage.
It made financial sense to build a two-story addition and a two-car garage rather than move. There is no reason to leave a good neighborhood when you can alter your house to fit your needs.
